Poll: Best Coyote Calls and where to buy them

Just wondering what everyone's favorite call is and where the best places are to buy them- both electronic and mouth calls and also which tapes seem to work the best for the electronic calls. I know I'm asking a lot of secrets but Coyote calling is just starting to get big here in my area of PA, myself and a group of a few friends became very interested in it, have had some luck, but would like to get tips from others more experienced than us. Thanks....

Hmmmmm, best calls!! Well, not trying to be a smarty, but the best calls I use are the ones that work at the time and place. I believe all calls, will work eventually. I've heard too many different guys use different calls and seen pretty much all of them work. But, the guys that use open reed calls seem to call in more than any other calls out there, including electronic and closed reed calls. To me, electronic is too repetitive. Some closed calls do sound pretty good and have worked for me in the past, but nothing holds a candle to the open reed calls. I like the two calls from Verminator, Tally-ho, Carlton, and Critter-gitter calls. Don't over look a good Howler or two also. Most open reed cow horns sound pretty good and I also like the Red Desert Howler. As for which tapes work best, well Coyoteseeker uses group howl with success to locate coyotes early mornings, and most have success with cottontail distress, fox pup distress, and jack rabbit distress to name a few. But, again, my money is on open reed, period!! Good Luck!!

RE: Poll: Best Coyote Calls and where to buy them

the most popular call would be rabbit distress, the rabbit distress calls in more predators then any other call.but rodent, bird, kitten, puppy any distress sound will work.i'll have to agree with howler on the repetitiveness of elec calls for coyotes, they just don't seem to responed well to elec calls.they work on fox but for coyotes get good with some hand calls.this dosn't mean that elec callers don't work becouse they do,its just that hand calls will concistantly produce more responces.i do use a group howl tape for locating several hours before first light but i don't use it to work them in.i carry both types with me but most times will use the hand calls on stand.my favorite call might not be yours, you need to experiment and find calls your comfortable with and have succsess with.succsess builds confidence, confidence means succsess.a good howler is a very important part of hunting coyote, you may not use it at every stand but you need to have one with you for when it is needed and you need to know how to use it.open reed, closed reed, variable pitch calls all have there pros and cons but you should have at least one open reed call with you.being from PA you find out that closed reeds calls like to freeze up,although opens reeds are harder to use they won't freeze up.its realy a matter of personal preference when it comes to calls.
