Yes they will. Use the 20 grain Hornady XTP HP and shoot them at 100 yds or less. The 17HMR is sooooo accurate that you can shoot at the base of the ear or through the eye. My 17 is grouping the Hornady's at .452 at 100yds for 5 shots!
Practice a bit and then get a good set of shooting sticks so you're steady.
Have at it and good luck!

I killed a bobcat at a little over a 100 yds with my marlin. Split its forehead wide open and dropped in its tracks. Should work on yotes if you take good shots.

They blow rabbits up real good I love mine for target shooting and if I'm yote hunting with my cousin thats what he uses. Should do the trick if you shoot them in the head

Killed this one dead by a head on shot to the chest. I used the Remington Polymer tip 17 gr. I love this gun.

Tell me about it!!

ya a .17 HMR will kill a coyote, would I recommend it? NO but it can do it.
A well place shot at 100 yards or less but don't be suprised if you get runners!

RE: 17hmr?

The biggest problem I have with the 17 hmr on coyotes is that you're limited to short yardage shots, and being able to suck it up at crunch time and pass on the longer shots, I'm afriad won't happen usually. I wonder how many coyotes havetaken body shots and run off, andthe shooter never evenknew he hit it![:o]

I have a savage .17hmr and it does the job on just about everything. I have shot coyotes, foxs, groundhogs, coons in excess of 100yds. U just have to get the hornady vmax ballistics or whatever will shoot best out of ur gun. thats the key.

RE: 17hmr?

it will do it but you have to have good shots and there still will be runners so only do it if you already have a bunch of yote hunting expierience

I have killed groundhogs at 220 and 180 yards with my roommates savage .17hmr. I loved the gun so much that I went out and bought one for myself:D I am going to try for some groundhogs this weekend. I can't wait!!!

It's kind of like shooting .22 hornet upto .220 swift at deer. MOST PEOPLE SHOULD NOT DO IT.
I shoot .22 hornet .222 and .22-250 depending where i'm hunting. short range hornet, long range
.22-250 people think I'm crazy (might be) lol until they see the damage they do on deer using
correct bullet.
The biggest thing is knowing YOUR abilities and surroundings as long as you don't exceed them
you should be ok out to about 100 yards

IMO .222 or .223 would be a better choice if you reloadreduced loadsyou can takerabitts squirrels ect.
at long range (good practice) and still eat them

know your abilities before you pull the trigger
just my opinion thx and good luck
