.223 vs 22-250
Which is a better gun for everything from squrriels to coyotes?
I want one and i was wandering if anyone wanted to sell one or trafe for a Remington model 700 ADL .270. I bought it 1 year ago and i have put 14 rounds threw it. |
RE: .223 vs 22-250
If your wondering if a .223 or a .22-250 is good for squrriels no for coyotes definately. If your wanting to go squrriel hunting too then you need something like a .17 or less. A .223 or a 250 will tear the snot out of squrriels. Ive only had a few where they didnt get ruined because i was using FMJ's and i was doing head shots. For coyotes though.... go for it. Both will do but its just personal preference. I personally use a .223 which i enjoy.

RE: .223 vs 22-250
22-250 Rem, hands down. Faster, not much difference in ammo prices, (dont shoot surplus nato grade ammo, matchgrade or factory is the best unlees you hand load.) Still short action, generally more accurate, more energy transfer and more weight retention, longer trajectory and many quality guns are chambered for itas isthe .223. you can also work up loads higher if you hand load because of the case size and demensions.

Blow up Squrriels with .223's
|
RE: .223 vs 22-250
i blew up a couple spruce grouse with my .223 before i sold it, even got it on tape. i really didnt expect that much energy transfer, only found one wing of one i blew up, and gutted 2 others with more precise shots later
we taped it only because it was our only kills on our sheep hunt |
RE: .223 vs 22-250
223. is the best for watching the squrriels blow up it dosn't give that bad of a kick back so you can see them blow up in your scope.

Hmmmmm.....guess I've been looking at this 'hunting' thing wrong all these years. Anybody got a 50BMG for sale?

RE: .223 vs 22-250
What the hell are you talking about??????Why not watch some 2 liter bottles filled with water blow up? I guess I am from the old school ,shoot what you need and leave the rest alone.I never go shooting to watch an animal blow up and I am teaching my kids to respect the wildlife also, I will never be a part of something like this!!!!

RE: .223 vs 22-250
I agree with you Dan. You jackasses that shoot squirrels just to watch them blow up should have your hunting licenses and your guns taken away. Why don't you think about what you are doing and what kind of ammunition you are giving the anti hunters out there. Thanks for making it hard on the rest of us! Keep your stupidity to yourselves from now on, ok.

RE: .223 vs 22-250
Are you talking tree squirrels--as in small game animals, or are you talking ground squirrels, prarie dogs, and the like that are making swiss cheese out of some ranchers hay meadow? Shoot the tree squirrels with a .22 and take them home and eat them. Do what you will with the rest.

RE: .223 vs 22-250
Way to call it like it is!!! all you really need to kill squirrels is a single shot 22lr...
