Savage 24 s
 

well, picked up a Savage 24 s today at a local gun show 20ga./ 22 mag. the warning on the barrel says not to use the shotgun barrel with scope attached. is there an after market scope mount that would eliminate the groved mount on the 22 barrel ? if not are there any fiber optic sights that are adaptable to the model 24 ? the trigger pull is horendeous ( 7-8 lbs) is this best handeled by a gunsmith ? also has anyone gone to the expence of haveing the barrel fitted for screw in chokes ? i wasnt too shure that i was going to end up with a combo gun ,because of weight and balance. this thing is 6.5lbs and points like an english double barrel !!! :D

If your Savage has a Accu trigger then you dont have to go to a gunsmith.... Thats why they made them, and for the reason to make the trigger pull much less than most other guns.

no its not the modern trigger this is an older version, dont think there is accu trigger on the new combo guns either at least not on the savage web site. only on certin models

The older Sav24's are better made than the recent ones.By this I mean fit ,finish and barrel regulation.it's not uncommon to have the rifle barrel hitting no where near the shotgun barrel.I had a 30-30 over 20 ga that printed rifle dead on at 25yrds and the shotgun was 3 ft. lowat the same distance. pretty much useless.On the other handI have an older .410/.22 that is bang on with same point of impact.You can actually shoot skeets to about 25 yards no problem with rifle sights.Not crudely finished like the modern ones.Never made with accu-trigger to my knowledge.Hope this helps............Harold

They are also a lot lighter in weight. My newer model 24 weighs over 8 pounds.
