BEST ROUND
WHAT ROUND WOULD YOU GUYS RECCOMMEND FOR A .223 FOR COYOTE?
MY BROTHER IS GOING TO LOAD FOR ME AND I DON'T KNOWWHICH IS THE BEST CHOICE. ( BULLET TYPE OR GRAINS ). MOST OF MY SHOTS WILL BE FROM 40 - 75 YARDS. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. EB |
RE: BEST ROUND
If you wanta factory load, there are plenty. Wichester white box 'Varmint Pack' (40 rounds 45gr Hollow point) is a good cheap effictive round if you aren't concerned with pelts. Black hills makes a bunch of different loads that are good. They make loads with 50 and 60 grain v-max's, and 40 and 50 grain Nosler BT's and a bunch of other hollow point loads. Pretty much anygood brand with a fast expanding bullet such as a ballistic tip or a hollow point. I shoot a hand load with 50 gr V-Max's and have shot the Winchester white boxes and they kill 'em pretty well.

RE: BEST ROUND
THANKS FOR THE REPLY.
SO I SHOULD USE A HOLLOW POINT, IN THE 40-60 GR. AREA? |
RE: BEST ROUND
Any round will work at that range. I would recommend for that to use a .22wmr. It will take yotes at that yardage. But I would get fancy with bullet selection if you will not be shooting long range.

RE: BEST ROUND
Depends on the rate of twist of your barrel.
A tighter twist will support a lighter bullet, for instance I shoot a 1:12 twist .223 and get better performance from a 50 gr V-max |
RE: BEST ROUND
IF I UNDERSTAND RATE OF TWIST CORRECTLY... 1-9" TWIST IS BETTER FOR A HEAVIER BULLET. ie 1-12" FOR 40-55 GR. & 1-8" FOR 65-75 GR. IS THIS CORRECT.? SO WITH MY 1-9" RATE OF TWIST I SHOULD BE GOOD FOR 50-60 GR. AM I EVEN CLOSE??

RE: BEST ROUND
I have a .223 and use hollow points and soft points. Hollow points work the best. I have a 1:9 twist ratio so heavier bullets are needed for me. Im guessing you have a 1:12 twist (most are) and if thats true then i would go with a 55gr or less.

RE: BEST ROUND
yea, the 40-60 gr. should be great. but my friend has trouble shooting accurately w/ 40s, they might b a little light. but try it first and good luck
