RE: When do yotes quit mating????
I hear that coyotes are different in Ohio, so I have no idea.

RE: When do yotes quit mating????
Unlike dogs, coyotes breed once a year. The actually breeding period is 2-4 days. The timing varies from region to region, but most breeding is done from mid. Feb. to early March with a63 day gestation period!

RE: When do yotes quit mating????
Does the gestation period ALWAYS take EXACTLY 63 days or are they like humans and can vary a few here or there?
|
RE: When do yotes quit mating????
Well, I do know that dogs can vary slightly, so I would assume coyotes gestation period can vary slightly as well!

RE: When do yotes quit mating????
Well I coon hunt and raise coon dogs. They go 62-64 days. For the most part you can bet on 63..on the money.

RE: When do yotes quit mating????
After my post..I started thinking.. So if a dog is in "heat" for usually 3 weeks. First week..coming in period. Second week, best time to breed. Third week...going out. Do coyotes do the same?

I'd think yotes would mate more during Spring time Most other critters are born in the spring, so why shouldn't the coyote be born in the spring? |

RE: When do yotes quit mating????
Ive heard that coyotes are good to howl to in late spring to early-late summer because the pups are learning the language and it is a learning experience to them and you, i also watched something on tv about how pups will respond to howls because they are basically what i said above learning the language. What's everyones input on this?
|
RE: When do yotes quit mating????
I don't know that it really has anything to do with the "pups learning the language". I would beleive that it has more to do with pup dispersal, where the pups are looking for "thier" own territory, and eventually looking for "thier" own mates!
What show did you watch that talked about the pups responding to howls? Was it videoed in a research area? |
RE: When do yotes quit mating????
Howler,
Actually the video i watched this on was on the DVD you told me about and i baught. He said they try to find their own areas like you said and they are very vocal because they like to howl and bark alot when they are young and curious. |
