Hunting rabbits w/ a shotgun question...

What loads do you use for hunting rabbits with a shotgun?

Hmm? Good Question. Well I have killed many with 6's but thats just because thats all I had. I killed 8 though, worked pretty good.

There are many variables in the question.
[ul][*]12 ga. or 20 ga.?[*]12 ga., I use less shot, because it has more shot. 20 ga., more shot because less.[*]If you are hunting with dogs: I would suggest something a larger shot because they will be usually moving. I would suggest 7 1/2's or 6's.[*]If your are hunting without dogs and stalking: Use very little shot. They will be sitting still if anything a few hops. A .22 would even be a good choice for this. 6's at most.[*]If you are hunting without dogs and jump shooting: Same as with dogs, they will be moving. More shot because of speed. I would suggest 7 1/2's or 6's.[/ul]

5's, is all I ever use, mod choke. Rabbits aren't that tough and 1-1/8oz slngs alot of pelets out there.

12 gauge with no dogs. I just don't want to go under prepared or over prepared.

i use a 12 guage with #5-7 shot and a full choke. Ive been going out quite a bit lately since all my other seasons are over and my dogs have been doing pretty good. we got around 50 rabbits or more between me and a few guys

Get you some 4s or 6s. We've shot 60 some rabbits this season over my dogs and I've been dying to go out, but works kept me busy as heck the last couple weeks. Only have 9 days left in the VA season so I'll be going out another couple times.

just use sabot slugs for rabbits...blow em right off the ground and make sure they dont move..thats just my opinion but after i shoot em i just leave em lay where they die..i dont want them so i just pile em up and feed the yotes...

Any shells you've got. I prefer #5's to the others though. You can kill them with any shotgun shells, depending on the range, etc.

.410 with #6 is all I've used for years. Does the job.

A 20 gage loaded with #6 Federal Heavy Field shells and a modified choke for spot and stalk, the same gun with #7.5 and a full choke for jump shooting.

anything that will work for skeet should be fine. they arent tuff to kill but sometimes they r in thick bush.

Any shells I've got lying around. I'm not picky with them.I like 6's the best though.
