Trapped Skunk, is the site ruined?
I trapped a skunk in a set-up I was hoping would bring me a bobcat or a yote. I shot him in the trap from about 20 yards away, but he still sprayed quite a bit and the whole area obviously reeks. Do I still have a chance to trap anything in this location for awhile or is it shot? This is my first year trapping and first dealing with a skunk.

wait for a week or so. although yotes love smelly things, if a smell is too strong, such as in your case, let is sit for a week or so.

Change the trap out and reset in the area. Skunk essence is a natural long distance call lure that will make most animals investigate.

What Mainebass said! Get another trap back in there pronto. Skunks are a good thing.

Yea, Ive trapped my fair share of them bad boys. I hear people complain about smelling a dead skunk on the road, but it is a totally different stinch being up close and personal, one that stings the eyes, nostril, and may make you dry heap a little.
I also agree, put a trap maybe not in the same spot but close to it anyways because even though I hate catching those little farts, they do attract foxes, yotes. |
