I have to disagree with akhunterteen and westokman because the fastest bullet on the market today is the .204 ruger my dad owns one. In my opinion I would go with a .223 because its bigger(easier kills) lots more ammo(cheaper) very accurate(long range shots) Heavier( able to take on wind) and long range. Go with the .223, easier to find the rifle and bullet with way more choices. .204 is good but i like .223 a little more!

If you reload I would go with the 204 Ruger. If not stick with a 223 Remington. Howler gave Good advice was given earlier as to the use of 35 grain Bergers on coyote. I think the 40 grain Berger comes in at a distant second choice among knoledgable coyote hunters.
Now if you don't care about the pelt I wouldrecomend a 243 for the long shots. Personaly I find the 6MM remington hard to beat for the long range stuff.
Although the lo recoil flat shooting 204 ruger pushing the 35 grain berger will be my fur friendly choice for 300 yard shots at Coyotes.

As far as I'm concerned, the caliber of choicedepends on these things:
1. where you're shooting coyotes. at your house with 150 yds range or are you gonna possibly go out west where a longer shot is possible?
2.are you gonna hand load or factory load. money can be tight at times as well as finding a dealer with the factory loadyou want for your caliber and purposes
3. are you in an area where you can leagally hunt deer with a rifle? multipurpose tool.
4. personal preference. i've seen video of a guy shoot and kill (near bang flop) a coyote at 200 ydswith a .204, as well as larger calibers such as .338 federal and45-70 out to 250 yds.
TO ME. . . it boils down to shotplacement and what you like to shoot. WhereI live, I have a max range of 200 yds.At 280 yds I have houses all around me. So, I chose a .204 for a variety of reasons. It has proven success and I have seen failure.A 7mm is too big for me personally. IfI lived out west I'd skip the 7mm and go for the Turkish or Chec 8mm Mauser!
Practice and shop around. Don't limit yourself too much.

DANTHEHUNTER: I like your targets ! Nice grouping. I've been working with my .204, shooting factory Hornady 40gr ammo and my personal best at 100 yds with a 5-7 mph southwest quartering crosswind is 3 shots in 1/2 inch. I like the thought that IF I miss it is MY fault, not the gun's. So the more accurate I can make my Savage model 12 single shot the better.
Gear: 3-9 x 40mm Leupold Vari X II scope
Harris model H bipod
good shootin'

I have both I like the .204
more fur friendly, faster , flatter and more accurate.
you can argue the fact that .223 is more stable in the wind but remember, the .204 is so much faster and spends less time in flight so wind is as not a big as a deal than most think!

Why not all 3, I own an H&R in 204, TC Contender in .223, and a custom Belguim FN in 22-250. I load for all 3 my favorite is still the 22-250, but I love the 204 because I can watch the impact. The TC is great if you want to be very portable and for yotes this can be real neat. I hand load for all 3 and someone mentioned to use Berger or other SPs for yotes and I agree they do the most damage.

I've got a .223 savage..and it's great to shoot to 250 and 300 yards, but after that it starts to drop off pretty good...out to that range it's the perfect caliber especially for the price, but if i was thinking about shooting any farther i'd go with the .220 swift..it's such flat shooting round!! i love my cousin's .220 swift!
