Bolt or Auto-Loader?

What do you prefer for your small game, a bolt action or auto-loader, and why?

Semi-auto. Reason: if I miss or multiple targets are acquired, then it becomes a speed factor. However, I prefer good ol' bolt actions over semi's in general.

Semi auto if you want to shoot stuff, bolt actionif you wanna hit stuff--it's more accurate:)I like semi autos personally

I've always liked the accuracy of bolt actions better, besides we can hunt with semi auto rifles in Pa. If your talkin shotguns theni'd choose anauto loader

The differance in accuracy between a bolt or semi auto is very small, yes there is a differance, but the average shotter wouldn't even know the differance

Is it true that auto-loaders jam alot?

As stated in one of your other posts regarding the 597, mine has misfed twice in about 300 rounds.

It's the only semi-automatic that I've ever owned though, so I'm by far no expert on the subject.

the newer AR's out there are just as if not more accurate than a lot of bolts .5 MOA is not uncommon

on my 597 the only problem is the clip will some times get stuck and there for the rounds will not be pushed to the top so it some times wont load. I have noticed that it does this every 3-4 full loadings of the clip and if i only put 9 in it instead of 10 i hardly ever see that problem.
still made me think of getting a marlin tube fed auto loader 22 rimfire though. its not to much and one can never have to many guns!!!

RE: Bolt or Auto-Loader?

on shot gun or rimfire id go auto loader. hard to find rimfires in any thing else and shot guns are lighter when they are auto loaders which I like. on deer or deer like game id take a bolt action. there is more selection on the gun and calibures and they are cheaper. if the recoil is a little harse there are thicker but stock pads available. thats the way I go. center fire-bolt action, rimfire, shot gun- auto loader.
