Ive been using a tornado brush on my .223 and when i use it its really hard to put down the barrel and when i pull it little pieces of metal comes out with it! My question is, do you think its metal comeing off the tornado brush or the barrel? Please help, Thanks

Probably just off of the brush and maybe any frags from the bullet that may be in the rifling of the barrel - unless that brush is made of some seriously coarse material there should be no way it is taking metal off the barrel

i wouldnt think it would do anything to the barrel, 5000 degree bullets travel through that barrel there is no way it could do anything... Right? Its basically a coiled wire swireled around like a tornado (hence tornado brush). It takes alot of strength to push it through the barrel though and thats what scares me along with the metal fragments coming out with it!

How many shots were fired between cleanings? If a guy cleans his rifle frequently enough, then you could use Butches bore shine with patches only, and avoid brushing at all!
A simple rule of thumb is to take a pass through the barrel with a cleaning patch for every shot fired! If the barrel wasn't cleaned for years and firedlots of rounds, then the brush will HAVE to be used!

I am not familiar with the cleaning brush that you are using. I assume it has some kind of a push rod. I would also assume that the fragments you are seeing are from the pushrod. I see that a lot with cleaning my .22 and a little with the .243 so I wouldn't be too concerned.
