.243 bullet

If you had to choose between a 75grn. vmax or a 100 grn sp what would you pick? This would be for general target shooting and varmint shooting?

V-Maxs have always been accurate in my guns, along with nearly anything Hornady. And they work well on coyotes on down to prairie dogs.

I have a .243 and with 75 grain I hold a real tight group out to 400+ yards but I shoot mainly 100 grain my group is not as tight but still within an inch - I go with the 100 grains because it also doubles as my deer rifle and I like to shoot the same rounds out of it year round - no mess'n with the scope and I know where it is going to hit and when you're that accurate to 400 yrds on woodchucks and other varmints you sure as heck ought to be able to hit a deer

I used the 75gr Vmaxs for a season out of my 243 and did not like them on coyotes. They always seemed to blow up on entry and left some serious holes. I switched to the Hornady 75gr HPs and have been using them for 3 years now with only one exit hole in that time frame on well over 100 coyotes.

I have a Savage model 11 .243, with a 3x9x40 scope, I am shooting Hornady 58 grain V Max's, tight group, only about an inch of drop at 200yrds, 3" at 300. Stay pretty tight, real consistant. A 75 grain bullet is a large one for coyotes, considering a .223 or 22-250 use a 30 to 40 grain, or smaller, depends. It would probably blow a pretty big hole in a yote.
