about fox meat....

Has anybody in here ever ate fox? If you have is it any good? I have been thinking about hunting fox and it would rattle me to the core to kill something and not eat it ya know? Also maybe tan the hide or sell it to somebody. Do foxes carry any diseases? I have heard to check the liver for white spots and stuff like that.Thanx.

RE: about fox meat....

Foxes carry numerous diseases, as do most wild animals. Even most domestics carry diseases. Thus cook suffiicently before eating. I've not heard of anyone who has tried and liked fox or coyote. If you skin it and leave the carcass, it will not go to waste. Something will eat it: Either another animal, insects in the spring, or microorganisms. We keep a couple of cats around the place and they like the fox as do the chickens...

If your intent on eating it, then cook it well. If the flavor is a bit off, you may find it more palatable to grind and make it into sausage.
