Coyotes in Traps (Pics)

There have been some questions pertaining to coyote trapping on the forum, specifically about the size of trap and depth of catch. I thought I'd share some photos that illustrate the methods I use- and some trophy photos too.

Thanks;

Ive never trapped and dont think i could but my family practically lived off of it back in the day, they wouldnt shoot it cause that puts a hole in the hide, little bat or something is what my dad used to carry, then step on them til they are done, i really dont think i could do it but that is how they used to do it

Trapping aint my thing but I might say those dogs have some healthy lookin coats. what state do you hail from? I tried trapping one year just wasnt for me Ill stick with a rifle im not gonna go into details just gonna say its a little to upclose and personal made me think and began feeling bad. A bullet ends it quickly and they are already dead in most cases when I retrieve the carcass.

I use a 22 pistol to dispatch my coyotes but "knocking" is a perfectly safe and humane way.

I'm from Indiana.

Yea I see that too but i think i wjould rather use a 22 instead of going through that

I was raised in a hunting family but there is no way I could do that. A few of those pictures would actually make me fell like trying to release them. I know they probably get very nasty and that wouldn't be an option but I feel bad for some of them. I hope my wife never sees this because my hunting days will be over for sure

Yes Salty, some men weren't cut out for it. I hear there are some that knit sweaters and eat hourderves, of course wearing leather and eating meat doesn't bother them because life outside their sightis all butterflies and sunshine. I'm sorry your wife keeps you on such a tight leash- the Humane Society should know about that.

Garminator, check out Hoosier Trappers Supply online- that's where I get most of my stuff. I also use Cumberlands trap supply, just do a google search and they should pop up.

Man, I give any guy that will get that up close and personal w/ a coyote a lot of respect. I doubt I have what it takes, but I want to go with one of my dads friends when he checks his traps this year just to see what its like.

Those are some really nice coyote pics, you seem to have a very healthy population of them in your territory. I live in southwestern Pa and just started catching coyotes 2 yrs ago. I am not sure what is going on this year, all I seem to be catching is fox, last year was just the opposite. I just pulled the remainder of my traps until after deer season. I had a few traps stolen and just gonna wait till the woods clears out. CONGRATS ON AN AWESOME CATCH!!!!!! Hope to see more pics in the future.

Jr,

when you get a bit older you will realize that there is actually a side of a person that can exhibit a sence of respect for the animals you hunt/trap. I hunt for trophy class bucks only. I shoot a doe about once every 5 years since I am not crazy about the meat. If I happen to shoot a nice buck I make sure I either eat every bit or give it to someone that will. when you see images that portray an animal suffering and waiting for someone to step on it's chest it gives others a false sence of what you are really doing. I am not against it and happen to absolutely hate coyotes. They have just about wiped out all turkey's in my area and the deer are very skittish. If you heard the pack at night in the back it would be enough to drive a person crazy. Honestly, I am going to hunt them at night this winter over bait and hopefully I shoot every last one of them. But you need to understand where I am comming from. A couple of those pics look like someone's pet german shepard in a trap.

I have been thinking about these pics for a few days now. I didn`t want to start an arguement about them but those pics just didn`t sit well with me. I too hunt and have a trapper`s licence and killing a yote does`nt bother me at all.
It is nice to pose for a few trophy shots after you have harvested the animal. However postingsome of those pics could have been fuel for the antis. I won`t or need todescribewhich ones. Those are "clean" pics too. I`m just glad Red Hawk removed a few of them. What is left does tell us the story without getting into the details.
My .02c worth.

I thought they were good pics. Nothing distasteful about them, other than they show what traps do -- catch coyotes. An effective method of thinning the population and preserving the hide.

If we let the anti's rule the day, we wouldn't be doing any of this.

He was just showing offhis trophies. That many coyotes is definitelysomething to be very proud of. I liked the pictures and saw nothing at all wrong with them.

Ok, So far I seen the illustrated method of catching them by setting some rope up on a garage and they get both their feet caught in it and fall and dangel. The second illustrated method shows howto catch them by the legs and hold them up. Two at a time. Good job. Third illustration is my favorite and prob works best out of all. The sneak up on them when they are already dead.

hey kengston, the bad thing is that you missed the pictures that were deleted. so before you start dogging people, know what your talkin about. He had about 20 coyotes that all got deleted for being "inhumane" or something. Not a great way to start out your membership.

Lighten up there higgy. If you can't have any humor here, I am not sure I want to be a member. I think I seen your humor by a tree yesterday down by the creek. Maybe you should go pick it up before it gets lost completely.
