tree rats with a .22, where do I aim??
 

Should I aim behind the shoulder like on deer or should I aim at the head like a turkey<img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle> I figure I should aim at the head cause it will die on the spot and I wont be chasing it down but just to be sure I figured Id ask:)

Head shot is crucial. If you hit them in the body and don't successfully knock them out of the tree, they tend to find a V or large limb to hide in or on.

i would say in the head so you get a quick death. i almost shot one with my .357 while deer hunting on saturady, stupid rat climb a tree and was on 15 feet away trying to bark at me, though he sounded like he was horse, it was strange

I try to make it a head shot,(if possible)that way when I cut the head off befor skinning there are no holes to deal with.

I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

I personaly aim behind the shoulder, I tried head shots before but if I missed the brain and shot it's nose off, I needed a second shot. But if I got anywhere around the front quarter they died instantly and I never had to put another shot in one of those.
