coyote chasing deer

well this last weekend while muzzleloader huntin...i imssed a coyote. to fill in the rest of the story, i heard something sprinting through the woods, so i turned to look and a doe was running faster than any deer ive witnessed run before straight for me. it was coming from my buddies stand, so naturally i thought he spooked er. but then i saw the coyote coming up behind it and gaining fast. they ran past my stand and the doe dove head first into the creek and swam across while the coyote stood watching. i shot over his back and he pranced away as if gloating at me. now for the question...is this normal for a single coyote to chase down a full grown doe? ive never seen anything like this before so i just thought id share it with you guys for input. i think this might be the reason of the deer being scittish that weekend, ive always heard they are with coyotes in the area.

Well, it is normal for them to "chase" deer but to actually take them down usually intells other circumstances such as deep snow that is crusted over, or a pack of coyotes involved instead of a single, or a wounded deer that the coyote sinces is week, etc. It's a fact that coyotes take down deer, but for one coyote to take down one full grown healthy deer on dry ground, it's not likely! Coyotes prefer easy meals, so they won't expend much energy "chasing" something that they probably can't handle!
The fawning season is when the coyotes will make a dent in the deer population!
