Predator gear?
 

What would I need in the way of gear (calls, firearms, camo and other) to hunt coyote and wolf in ontario? thanks.

Since you put wolf in the menu, I'd suggest a .243, or up, for a rifle. There are a whole bunch of calls on the market that will call both. Distress sounds are what do well on all predators! If ya got the cash, then a electronic call would be an easy to get started, and the Fox Pro is hard to beat. Lots of different brands of camo. too, predator camo is a good choice and seems to work well in the open terrains that seem to be dominate in the winter time!
If you've never done it at all, and have no idea of the sounds that you're trying to imitate, a good calling dvd will give you some ideas, and there are a bunch of them on the market too. I'd suggest buying a couple of them, and watch, listen, and learn what the guys are doing. You don't have to mimic them to the T, but learn the gist of the sounds and rythems of the sounds, and you should be able to call some coyotes!

I suggest you get Randy Andersons Calling All Coyotes DVD or VHS. It will teach you all the different calls, etc for calling coyotes. It isn't filmed where you are at (mainly in Nebraska and South Dakota), but its a good start.

I use a 243 for all my coyote calling, I used to use a 223, but I like the way my 243 bucks the wind better, and if a deer presents itself during season I can smoke that as well.

I have no idea what caliber to reccomend for wolfs. I'd think a 243 would be minimum.

If you've already got a 710, it will work, but if you are looking at buying a gun, I'd suggest a 700 if you are going Remington. And don't go for a package gun. Buy the optics seperate or get a gun with open sights.

Mouth calls are easy enough to use with a little practice, and I think they work a lot better than cheap electronic calls. But if you've got the money, a Fox Pro is worth every penny.

Any kind of camo will work as long as it breaks up your outline. Use the vegetation around you to help break up your outline a little more. Predators are very sensitive to movement, and you can't move once they focus on you. So have the gun ready at all times.

Something as simple as a feather and fishing line can help improve your odds. Tie a feather in a fence, branch, or something about 25-30 feet away where it can wiggle in the breeze. It's movement will help take some of the focus off of you.
