squirrel migration
 

Many years ago my brother and I were traveling down a dirt road in Pa. when we came across a squirrel migration from one hillside to another. In the space of 300 yards or so we saw over 200 squirrels coming donw from one hill heading to the other side of the valley. Only ever saw this one time and am wondering of anyone else has observed this too?

I seen this one time.
I was deer hunting and there was squirrel after squirrel.
They all got on a holly tree and ate all the red berrys off in just a few minutes.

It was weired.

When I was young and just started hunting, my father told me about squirrel migrations. I think he said he saw one when he was young.

I forgot all about that until this thread jogged my memory. Thanks!

we had one here in upstate ny about 10 -12 years ago. they were EVERYWHERE...
used to limit out in 30 minutes, without going 20 feet off the dirt road. one day i got my limit out of one tree in less than 10 minutes. it was amazing. i put over 100 in the freezer in one month! this is a good year for em, but i havent had a season like that again!

in town, there were literally dozens dead on the road . they even crossed the hudson river , running across the train trestle and castleton bridge. saw an albino and a black one that year, only time i've encountered those color phases around here, too.

The gray squirrels are that way now in Missouri.They are everywhere alot seen dead on roads.One trip to the woods around some hickory nut tree's and I can have my limit in about 10 minutes.

I have read that a long time ago (150+ years), there were massive migrations. If I remember, they think it had to do with overcrowding and natural dispersion. Maybe this is a sign of increasing populations due to reduced hunting/predation and cropland resorting to forest?
