Made two sets late this evening. I thought the first set would produce. The wind and the sun were in great positions, I had a good spot picked out, and I have had a lot of luck in the area. I called for about 45 minutes and got no response.

So we moved to the second set. I haven't had a lot of luck in this area, but I know the coyotes are there because I see signs of coyote activity. I set the call in a tree and set out the decoy (turkey feather on a string). After calling about thirty minutes, nothing showed. Then I thought I heard a howl. I howled back. I got a response. I howled again. The coyote responded again. I could tell from his responses where he was at, but I had two large problems trying to get him in. There were two herds of cattle between myself and the coyote. He would have to come through the herds or cross a large open field to the left oranother tothe right. If he came, it would take him a while. And it was getting dark fast. It finally got dark enough we had to take our masks off. I kept checking through the scope to see if there was still enough light to shoot. As long as there was, we would keep playing the waiting game. Then as we were about to give up, I spotted motion. I saw what I thought was somethings back through the tall grass. It disappeared behind some brush, then we could see it move through another opening. I realized it was a coyote. I took careful aim and shot him before he made it through the opening. I knew I had made the shot when I heard the bullet smack.

The 75 gr. V-Max from the 25-06 did a number on him. And this is the entrance wound. The Leupold scope was the difference maker. This picture was taken about 20 minutes after the shot to give you some idea of how much light was available, and I had no problem identifying the target and making the shot.
