I am going on a hunt for bobcat coyote and possibly mountain lion.... I was wondering about any techniques, and i am looking at spotlights and was wondering if yall preffered one that mounted to your gun or if it doesnt really make a difference.????

For the most part, the technique to call all listed predators is about the same. The main difference being that typically you need to stay in one spot and call longer for cats, as they generally come slower, and they often times will hold up, or stall, once they get to where they can see, or where they think they can see, the action, usually at the edge of cover. SO, a guy really needs to study his surroundings when expecting cats, because they won't be there one moment and then they are there the next!
As far as spot lights, I don't do any night calling, BUT from what I have seen on video, it looks like a gun mounted light along with a buddy to hold a larger spot light works well! One guy does the calling and jack lighting, while the other is set up to do the shooting!

By the way, very few mountain lions are killed by calling them, it can be done, but very few get'er done!

I know of only two mountain lions that were killed last yearhere in NVby calling them in. Both were incidenatal kills while the people were hunting coyotes in August in September. That is from the 59 that were killed by people with hounds, and that was only for the Northeast 4 counties in the state. It can be done, but I wouldn't bank on it. Hunt for coyotes, and if you call in a lion, you have done better than most probably could.

I took a guy calling this past weekend and called up a bobcat. Normally they hang up and move from bush to bush closing in, but this critter was in a dead run to the pickup. He got within 15 yards before he finally stopped to havea look around. I thought he was going to jump in the pickup with us there for a second.:D

I've called up a mountain lion once, and that was more by accident than anything.

I called a lion in once...big mistake. If you must, bring an extra pair of pants with you! It'll raise the hair on the back of your neck. Calling bobcats takes a lot of patience, like the others say, and I use an attention grabber to get their attention. Believe it or not, a turkey or goose feather tied to a branch or something high does the trick. Bobcats don't seem to care for the rabbit squealer; they like a bird or something squeaky...not loud. All things considered, I'd rather stick with the coyotes...
