Awesome looking pictures man! Congrats on the nice bear! Any reason why you choose to shoot open sights vs. a scope?

Rammer 06-14-2006 09:15 PM

RE: wolf pics

Ya, the gun looks really nice. I figured you were shooting open sights for a reason on it :DI decided if I ever get the chance to go chase dangerous game around I might buy myself an open sighted marlin guide gun in 450 marlin or 45/70, with a quick detach scout type scope setup on it.

If it will help to settle your ol ladies nerves I could always come chase Brown bears with ya :D:D:D

huntnfishak - how much would it cost for me to get all licenses up to shoot a bear up there? Can a guy buy tags over the counter? What time of the year would be best?

I really appreciate the offer! I've never killed any biggame other than whitetail, muleys and antelope so far, and I just found out I didn't draw any of my elk tags this year :(

I could not pass this gun up for the price, it was only $800.00 bucks and shot a few times...Weatherby Mark V Super Varmintmaster 243
It retails for over $1,500.00 not a bad buy for $800.00
Now I haft to figer out what to put on top,I am thinking about a VX-L 6-20 X 50MM

My wifewent out the road today and took some pics, our yote/wolf season don't open for 20 more days and this wolf better feel lucky... [:-]
he had Mange bad. This one was taken about 5pm. Sorry about the fuzzy pic as she had to take it out the windshield so she didn't scare him away. He was about 100 yds away just a chip shot...;)

She caught the Brown bear cruising the river bank about 2pm. He was a nice shooter he was about 9' foot but the season doesn't open up until Sept. 1st. She said just her luck...on the day she see's everything all the seasons are closed! He was about 200 yds away.

Rammer - I can't wait to get the gun. It should be here this week...:D

Awesome pics! I wish I would have had a digital camera the last week out to our other farm while combining wheat. Saw lots of nice bucks, a few 'yote pups, and a bunch of other critters.

Be sure to give a range report!

This is what we call a Native Thing...
That is my partner we went out yot hunting but things just didn't work out for us...
So we did the next best thing he used my 243 Mark V and busted this Sealbutt at over 200yds and believe me the target is very small all you get is 1 head shots you miss and there gone well he didn't miss you can see and he will get over $400 for the hide after it's tanned...

What are you doing with the coyote hides and skulls? You're having a good year this year with plenty of trigger time it seems. When are you going to chase brown bears again?

Can someone helping me with what I would need for hunting(clothes, firearms and calls) bear, moose, deer and coyotes/wolves in alaska? Thanks. Also to move from ontario to Alaska? Thanks again!

huntnfishak 10-14-2006 08:07 PM

RE: wolf pics

mallard stalker why would you want to move from ontario? you have everything you need right there. you have all the same animals to hunt that i do here. bag limits and seasons seem to be the only difference. if you insist that you want to move then you basically have all you need now. weather is about the same and there isnt anything different about the calls. but you can always check the dept of fish and game website for alaska rules and regs about types of firearms needed etc.
hope that helps you out some.
