A good fox gun?

I have a Ruger 10/22 carbine .22 LR with a 3-9 scope on it, would this be a good fox gun?my dad thinks it wouldnt be enough to take one down, but he doesnt hunt or shoot so he isnt a very good source. if its just barely enough gun, were should i shoot them. Imjust looking for a few skins to hang up at my camp, they dont need to be perfect so if i have to hit them in the head, i will.

I have killed fox with a 22 LR. I don’t consider it to be a great fox round. If you use the 22 lr keep the shots under 30 yards. I have had them run off at longer distances. I have also killed them a 22 mag. I have to keep shots under 50 yards with this gun. They are accurate much further out but they don’t seem to have enough power to get a fox down for good. My go to fox gun is a Remington LVSF chambered in .17 remington. I also use a 22 hornet. With both of these guns, shot placement is important. If hit one in the wrong place it will make a big mess of them.

It will kill a fox, but there are better cartridges out there. If you could use a shotgun, it would work better. If not, use the .22, just keep your shot close and be prepared to shoot more than once. Also be prepared to hit a moving objects. Foxes trot everywhere.

The .22 is one of my favourite fox guns I don’t know if your foxes are any bigger then ours, but I have found it will drop them on the spot at 75m with a shot to the head or chest; I use the Winchester power points and find it really knocks them. If a fox is just trotting around and hasn’t seen you yet or has been squealed in, then a gentle whistle like you would for a dog makes them stop and look around and that will give you about 3-10 seconds to take a good clear shot at them.

I use the 22lr all the time for foxand never had one run off. Farthest shot was 125yd with no wind.He only ran 25 yd before rolling with alung shot. I use american eagle 38 gr. hollow points. These rounds shoot great out of my gun. I shoot almost a brick a week at targets, ground squirrels, rockchucks and other things from 25-150yd so Iknow were to shoot. The key isknowing how your gun shoots and shot placment.

Ive heard of folks killing fox with air rifles. I think a 22 LR would be my choice low expansion would help in not wrecking furs. I have also heard the 17 rimfires do well on fox too.

i would go with a .22 hornet,.222, or .223. of course you could use the 22 mag, 17hmr or 22lr but range and knock down energy is limited with these cartridges.
