Sardines as beaver bait?

I heard sardines work as beaver bait. Any truth to it?

Not sure, that's why I asked.

Nope, as kevin said beavers are vegetarians and their entire diet basically consitst of the bark off of trees.

How often should I "freshen up" the bait (castor scent, poplar oil, or poplar twigs/bark)?

Once a week is plenty. Beaver are much more attracted to sets with visual appeal rather than scent. That should be the main focus of the set, if they don't see it they generally will miss it.

Sardines may work for many things but I don't think Beaver would be one of them. If you want to try something a bit different, try a piece of Apple instead of the usual offering of a few twigs from a Poplar or Willow. For some good trapping advice, check the trapline community bulletin board at www.sullivansline.com . As on most sites, there are a few on there that may rub you the wrong way, but overall if you enjoy trapping it is a good site.
