Advice for a first prairie dog hunt?

I'm looking to go on a prairie dog hunt sometime this summer. Having no experience with it im trying to get any ideas of how to best go about it. I plan on driving from Wisconsin to South Dakota to do it. Is permission to use private land a feasable thing or is using an outfitter preferable? i appreciate any input

RE: Advice for a first prairie dog hunt?

You can generally get on private land but will likely have to pay a tresspass fee. There are a lot of walk in areas in western SD that have prarie dogs on them. You can try to contact the SD game and fish and see if there is anyone there that can direct you. You may also try to get in touch with "snip". He has a post in the Hunt classified forum titled Archery doe hunters wanted. The area where he lives is full of prarie dogs, if they don't have any I know that their neighbors do and he can probably line you up with a hunt.
