I've looked around and besidesthe RRA and encore the Stevens 200 $230.00has peaked my interist as well as the Charles Daly field grade $275.00, the only problem with Charles Daly they don't have a 223 only 22-250. So I have decided to get the Stevens in 223 because being a 223 you can load more varity ofbullets (it has a 1 in 9 twist)and their cheeper, furthermore it's bolt action and practice will help my deer rifle skills

It is funny how many people say how little hide damage the caliber dose and than state how fast the bullet is.Speed makes expantion. Expantion makes damage. In turn fast bullets= big holes.
i agree completely with you.

I would agree that your principles in the above quote and statement are correct. But if that bullet never leaves the body it doesn't matter how fast or how much it expanded you only have one hole. A hole that will likely be the same or slightly smaller than the caliber of bullet used. (I know there may be the occasional exception where by some freaky physics a "splash" wound appears at the entrance) You are correct, generally, greater velocity=greater expansion=greater wound channel=greater hole. IF THE BULLET LEAVES THE BODY I believe this is what makes the sub-calibers so viable.

Go with the .204 Ruger 10/22. Holds a whopping 1268.7011371712865 f.p.e with a 32g bullet or for a 40g it holds 1585.876421464108 f.p.e. Also the .204 is a lot faster, is straight out flat trajectory and always dependable with dead accuracy. Also here is the chart for the .204

Kindof Bullet 100yrd 200yrd 300yrd 400yrd
Hornady 32g V-max+0.6in.0in. -4.2in.-13.4in.
Hornady 40g V-max +0.7in. 0in.-4.5in. -13.9in.
Shooters Bible (C) Stoeger Books 2005 Edition No.96

At 200 yards it is about 0 inches off!

For the .223 a 50g bullet has only 1209.3550106609807 f.p.e. Which means the .204 32g still has much more power behind it than a heavier 50g .223 bullet.

go with a .223 because they a very versatile guns. you can buy cheap ammo and there is such a wide selection of bulletts to choose from even in factory loads. From a 40 grain to probably 60 in factory. what i have seen from mine there is nop pelt damage not even in the faster bullets. Just meat damage. The hole from a 45 gr hp are so small that there is no blood trail from any animal. I have killed deer with my .223 witht he 45 gr hp and there is a very small whole but the bullets are catastrophic on the animal. the deer i killed with it neither went more then 30 yrds before expiring. Get one youll like it alot.

I have a savage .223 and it has plenty of power for a fox. I also recommend a savage because I have 3 and they are the best guns I have. Especially with an accutrigger.
