Coyotes and .22 Magnum?

Coyotes and .22 Magnum?
We have alot of coyotes in the area I hunt (private land). Just started hunting them a couple years ago. The area I hunt allows no rifle larger then .22 rim fire. we have taken a few using #4 buck shot but see alot staying outta shot gun range. I have a .22 magnum and was wondering if this would be enough to put them down without having to pull off a head shot every time. We have a blast calling them in close enough for the 12 ga. but because of live stock and the land owners request he would like to see us take a few more. Any Ideas????

a .22 mag would work if you can get them within shotgun range. you may lose a few but they will end dead in short order. just punch them threw the ribcage. i like the .223's but for short range the mag would work fine.

Yes, it will take them reliably under 100 yards. Lungs shots will generally put them down within 20-80 yards. I would recomend the Win. 40 gr.jhps if your gun shoots them accurately enough, these give good penertration, bullet expansion of about 30-35 cal. and retain weight well. This ammo ,has for me ,taken considerably larger animals without anyproblems.

are you allowed to use slugs? if you can borrow somebodys old .410 shotgun and put 3" magnum slugs and it wont put a large hole in its side if u want a mount and it doesnt have as bad as trajectory as the 12 gauge and its a bigger bullet with more knockdown power than the .22 mag. or maybe the 22 hornet? if ur allowed to use those

Thanx for the input guys. I think I will try my 22 wmr with the win. 40gr jhp the muzzle velocity is a lil slower then some but seems to have enough down range energy. I'll test it in my gun see what comes of it. I don't sell the pelts but also Don't want to leave animals just running off and dying. I do Keep all the fur for myself. If all else fails I'll go back to the #4 buck shot. Just seems for every 2-3 we get with 12ga there are 4 that just don't close the distance (60-80yrds)......
