Some BB gun questions

Do you think a pump bb gun with a pellet in it will take down a yote?

RE: Some BB gun questions

Within 10 yards and a perfect shot, possibly... After a BB or Pelet gun get aount past 15 yards the velocity drops greatly and the weight of the bullet has litle effect...

Trapperjake,
Coyotes are pretty tough animals. If you're really
considering going after them you need to choose a
a better weapon. If you have one in a trap, the
minimum I'd be comfortable with just to dispatch
from point blank range would be a .22, maby one of
the 17 rimfires. Out gunning for them at pretty close
range a .22 mag rifle would be astarting point.
Past100 yards one of the centerfire .22 rounds.
There are people who have accounts of killing all sorts
of critters with smaller than usual guns. Don't use it as
a guideline. Always use enough gun for a clean kill.

God bless & good hunting
PK

I can't believe that it would even occur to anyone to use a BBgun to kill a respectable animal such as the Coyote. I wouldn't even say that a .22 long rifle would be a relible means of dispatching the animal, unless, like PK said, you had one in a trap at point blank range. It is not my place to tell you how to hunt the game that you pursue, but I can say that as a hunter, it is your responsibility to make every effort to BE ETHICAL AND HUMANE. A BB gun just won't do it.

I might use a BB gun to bash a (respectable?) coyote over the head, but not shoot it. Just kidding. But seriously folks, keep in mind that coyotes can be a real nuisance. There are plenty of examples of coyotes entering property and evenyards to attack domestic animals, and in a few documented instances, kids. My father just lost one of his pet geese to coyotes and a neighbors dog got chewed up pretty good. Under those circumstances, the minimal requirements go out the window and you use what is handy, at least according to the police in my semi-rural neighborhood.

RE: Some BB gun questions

Using a BB/Pellet gun to kill a coyote isn't something you should even consider. My opinion is that there isn't nearly theimpact powerto kill your quarry in a respectable and humane way. I understand that coyotes are a nuisance animal, but considering a BB/Pellet gun for this isn't something anybody should consider.

I'll step off of my soapbox now.

RE: Some BB gun questions

wow if your thinking your bb gun can do that you must have a super powered bb gun or something because most bb's would bounce off.

In the country, sometimes ya just gotta make do. I once had to use an electric fence post (not much bigger than a clothes hanger) on a coon with rabies that was making a beeline for a yard full of kids and dogs.

RE: Some BB gun questions

If you could tell me the name of your BB gun and the FPS on it would help I have a Winchester pellet rifle that shoots roughly 1250 FPS I cant use steel BBs in it but I use pointed pellets because the penetration would be bad on a head shot with a wadcutter. So if I had to do It I would pump it to the max use a BB because it will go through the skull better than a pellet and shoot it point blank in the eye or between the eyes. but my advice is just not to do it. BUT if you dont have anything bigger I can help you out also just e-mail me: [email protected] I have done LOTS of researchon "primitve" weapons.

RE: Some BB gun questions

You'd be pumping till your arm fell off or the pump broke before you would be able to take one down with a pellet gun.
