RE: coyote shotgun

i like the smooth bore with a modifiedbarrel and B-B size load. you can shoot 40 to 45 yards with real good affect.

if you have interchangable chokes you might want to lean towards something on the 'tight' side.

4 Buck, 000 buck, or 00 buck in the largest shell your gun will handle.

My 835 with 3.5 in. 000buck out of a turkey choke will kill coyotes up to and including 100 yards.

RE: coyote shotgun

I have used everything from 6's to double ought buck. The trick with killing a coyote with a shotgun is to use the smallest shot that will reliably penetrate the skull, and go for the head/neck shot. This is usually 2's or BB's; although 4's will work at fairly close range. A body shot with 00 buck is going to kill the coyote eventually, but often not soon enough to facilitate recovery. These are amazingly tough critters!
