RE: coon trapping
I use the sardines like you, but I add cat food(fish flavor) and saltine crackers,(the crackers makes the food go father)I use the sardines in oil.
I catch some cats and possums, but mostly coons.
I have taken enough to pay mine and my dads hunt club dues.I have found that when you catch 3 or 4 possumes then you start getting coons.

Try this one:
Duffer's Coon Trap
or this one:
Padded Coon Trap
Bait them with the Coon Cream also available at this site , or just insert a small piece of strongly scented fruit into the trap . You'll catch far less possums and no cats or skunks .

RE: coon trapping
The very best coon bait is JACK MAC. IT is caned fish. I traped for the state of MO. jack mac is the cheep, last long time, and very very strong smelling.
You will most allways get some bicatch but the jack mac will help a ton.
The only thing I know of for just coons is a visuall bait.Coons hunt off sight more than most animals and a good ear of dried corn will get coons.

RE: coon trapping
thanks for the advice! I have caught 3 possums and a cat at this set in 5 days so maybe the coons will start finding the baits. I know there are some coons around the barns I have the coon set's at'they just havn't showed yet.
