RE: How loud is a 22 short
If you live in a town/city/ sub division ect.... use a pellet gun! I think I speak for most people when I say "I dont wanna be accidently shot by you while eating breakfast in my kitchen" What goes up must come down and that means holes in roofs, cars, people ect.. and when you shoot at a squirrel most of the time your shooting in an upward direction. So for everyones safety stick to a pellet gun its just as deadly to a squirrel as a 22 short and trust me your neighbors will hear a short go off.

Yea i use a pellet gun to pick off squirls all the time.
what i do more than i should i but a BB in the chamber then drop 3-4 more into the barrel at the top... (Shotgun) if your withing 50 feet ton of damage! works great. But my gun is a pellet/BB gun and it is the one you can pump alot. If you put more than 4 in it will kick some and the velocity slows up real quick not a kill shot. so stick with 3-4 BB's.

CCI makes a .22 short that sounds just like a crossman 760. but most shorts are just as loud as a .22 long rifle. i can shoot these out back off the deck and my wife never hears anything just inside the door. they shoot very good out to about 45 yards or so. actually at that distant they hit about an inchhigher than a long rifle because of the small bullet. 20 grain bullet.
