squirrel hung up in tree
I was out small game hunting with my bow and a squirrel was in a tree and I didnt want to take a shot and I was just wondering how you get them to come down or is there no way to get them to come down,

RE: squirrel hung up in tree
They ususally come down really quick.
Right after I shoot them. I'll take good luck over skill any day! |
RE: squirrel hung up in tree
as long as they know your there they won't come down or if they do it will be after hoping 50 yards away in the tree tops.park your butt next to a stout tree and don't move, after things settle down the squirrels will begin working the ground and hopefully in your direction.

RE: squirrel hung up in tree
I havn't tried this but I heard if go hit the tree with the blund of an axe as if you were chopping it, it forces them to come down. I don't know how well this would work for bowhunting. But even just to get them to come to your side of the tree when they are keeping the tree between you and him you can tie a string to a bush and and walk to the other side of the tree and tug the string. This has worked for me a few times before. I think you would rather have them on the ground though. Good luck

RE: squirrel hung up in tree
Patience is the only thing I know. Might get a couple flu-flu arrows tipped with blunts for bow shooting them out of a tree, they wont fly very far at all due to the fletching.

RE: squirrel hung up in tree
I have run into treed squirrels quit a bit, patience is definitely the best thing, but sometimes I have quite a lack of it.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> You know what I have done in the past? If they're not too high I chucked some walnuts, branches, anything feasible at them and as luck may have it they scattered down the tree. This may be bad advice but it has worked for me, maybe the squirrels in my woods are morons.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: squirrel hung up in tree
If they are on the other side of the tree, just find a stick or something and throw it on the other side. Usually this gets them to come to the other side. But be ready. When they see you they will be right back where they started. Have you gotten any yet?
