.22 brand
Im interested in buying a bolt action .22 with a 7 or so shot clip. But with all the brands out there I'm having troubles deciding on a rifle. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which brands make good quality .22's for around 100-200? Thanks in advance.

RE: .22 brand
I would suggest a Marlin, those are some real good lookin rifles. Also ruger makes some darn good rifles. Either one would be great.

RE: .22 brand
When it comes to .22, my preference is for Marlin all the way. I own a Ruger Mark 2 .22 pistol, and I enjoy it very much, but I had a Marlin 60 that I used all the time and a Marlin 780 that I always take with me for hunting or shooting. It has a 7 round magazine and is very fun to shoot.

RE: .22 brand
Do you really need a bolt action? The reason I ask is, my buddy has a .22 Henry Lever Action Carbine. It is VERY accurate, I was shooting stationary clay pigeons out to 200 yards. Holds 15 rounds I believe and I think it is $180?

RE: .22 brand
I would get the Marlin over the Savage but, I would save my money and get a Ruger they hold 9 rounds in a flush rotary magazine and you can put a 22 mag or 17 HMR barrel on it. They are around $400 but it is a lot higher quality than the Marlin or Savage. And it is like a mini full size M77 Mk II. My 77/22 LR will shoot a 1/2" group at 50 yards and at 30 yards I can put 10 shots under a dime.

RE: .22 brand
I've never shot a Merlin but i don't question if its a good gun or not though. I've always shot a Ruger without any regrets using it. I'd suggest the Ruger but as coyotegod as well as the others said, both are great guns.

RE: .22 brand
Id say you cant go wrong with ruger, savage, and marlin. Remington came out with a bolt action 22 it might be worth giving a gander at. but for the 200 dollar range go with a Marlin or Savage. good luck

RE: .22 brand
I have a Winchester Model 190 (I dont think they make them anymore) but basing my opinion on it and my friends 94 I would go with a Winchester. Mine has never jammed and I shoot the daylights out of it, easily over 2000 rounds. and I also have a activator wich makes it basically automatic and even then only the ammo has failed. but I hear Marlin makes good .22's (The Winchester 190 is $150-$175) but its a semi.

RE: .22 brand
A bolt action .22 is almost unnessesary. Anyways I have purchased a Ruger 10/22 Semi auto and it is a beautiful piece of work, awsome gun, thats really all I can say.

RE: .22 brand
You should be able to find a Marlin in that price range - Rugers tend to go for a bit more.

RE: .22 brand
here in aussie we have a high regard for cz(brno), anchutz and krico.do they fall in your price range in america?

RE: .22 brand
Something else to worry about after you get the rifle is ammo - I've found that the various brands/types shoot differently. The fun is finding out which one your rifle likes.

RE: .22 brand
since no one has mentioned them, i feel obligated to suggest a cz rimfire. A bolt action .22 lr can be had for around $200 and they are of excellent quality. Also, all of the cz rimfires i have seen have been extremely accurate. I have a 452 american in .17 hmr and it's a tack driver.

RE: .22 brand
live2hunt743, i have many .22's and the number one .22 bolt action is the CZ, Marlin comes in at a close second, but nothing compares to CZ rifles, the varmint version, the american, or whatever you like, can be quite pricey though, but they are worht it. I would suggest this model, the Varmint model. http://www.wholesalesports.com/images/brno/63278.gif ,
Marlin 880sq is also another wicked rifle, i own both CZ and a few Marlins. If you have any questions about models or anything, just ask me.... Good luck!! Sako7mm |
