RE: who was it

SpringHillFarms wrote about that back on 4/20. I have one myself that my hunting buddy made for me. I carried 3 big gobblers out of the woods with it this spring. It works great.

RE: BAD DAY

On opening morning my buddy and I had 3 hen decoys and a strutting jake decoy out in the field. We called in 4 longbeards into the field. They were about 70 yards away from us when they entered the...

1 1/4 inch spurs...how old is he?

My second gobbler this year had a 10 inch beard and 1 1/4 inch spurs. I was thinking he was a 4 year old turkey. What do you all think?

RE: suggestion's and tips

ALESN87 I would get out there early while its still dark and get on the top of a ridge or high point on the propery and listen for gobbling at daybreak. This will help you pinpoint where they're...

RE: Question - locator calls

ALESN87 I would just use my crow call or one of my other locator calls if I was just scouting before the season. I try not to use my turkey calls in the woods before the season.

RE: HELP! Toms are making me mad!

Spitndrum the fighting pur sounds like the putt and pur but quicker and more aggressive and sporadic. Its the sound gobblers make when fighting each other. Its easiest for me to make this call with...

RE: friction call material

I carry all 3 types into the woods with me. All of them have done the trick for me on different occasions. The slate seems to work best for me when using soft clucks, purrs and yelps. The aluminum...

RE: How long you been hunting turkeys::poll::

Twentysomething years in the spring woods with a gun in my hand and a few more on top of that as a little kid just tagging along with my dad.

RE: What are they doing?

spitndrum I didn't think about that. I guess something like dogs or coyotes or maybe other hunters could have spooked them the afternoon or evening before causing them to head in a different...

Best choke and shell for 835?

I have a Mossberg 835. I think its a Stardot choke I am using in it now. I have tried 3" and 3.5" shells in it from Winchesters to Federals to Remingtons. I was just wondering what you all have had...

RE: Well folks, I don't think it's happening this year...

I know how you feel. One of the places I hunt is like that. I don't even try to hunt there on the weekends until later in the season when most of the other hunters have decided to go fishing. ...

RE: Question - locator calls

I use a Primos power crow call. I just blow into it and it sounds like a crow. If the turkeys are in a gobbling mood it works anytime, morning, afternoon and evening. Sometimes it doesn't matter...

RE: How early do they roost?

If it was an hour before dark I would say they were still on the ground. The turkeys in my area seem to fly up about the time the sun disapears but you can still see fairly well.

RE: Best ways to hunt in this condition?

I have had the best luck hunting fields and pastures in the rain. Turkeys seem to like the security of being in an open field during the rain.
