I would shoot any good size deer heck I only can shoot one buck per year in Indiana but shoot up to three doe. I think an young doe tast better anyways.

The ram rod that you get with the gun is just for loading in the feild. For cleaning and shooting at paper buy an range rod they are longer and are made mutch stronger.

Sorry about that here in Indiana if you find an dead deer that you your self didnt kill, have to call DNR and they can sign the deer over to you free of charge , now cut the rack off without calling...
