In my opinion you can't go wrong with Weatherby. I own an Accumark in 7mm Rem. mag.and it is a real workhorse.

On the safety features I trust Weatherby very much, a friend of mine had a blown up...

Brownings overpriced? Not at all, they are very accurate dependable rifles. I think the White Gold Medallion is the most beautyful rifle you can find in that price range ($1000).

Anything less than 7.5 pounds (scope, sling and loaded) will be too light in my opinion. I feel very comfortable with a 8.5 pounds rifle in 7mm Rem or a 9 pounds in 300 wsm.

I agree with Red Allison the 257 Wby is a very effective caliber and the Mark V Deluxe will turn some heads in the range.

I personally recomend a Kimber in 300 WSM. They have a really nice fit...
