congrats on your trophy! You should be able to tell when you pull and twist to remove them but it sure looks like 3 to me.

I'd agree with Howler. They are still in larger flocks. Driving between Wichita and Topeka over the weekend I saw 4 different flocks of 15 or more birds in late afternoon. Normally they are dispersed...

i use a nova with a primos tightwad choke and remington 3" loads. i've shot 2 birds at over 45 yards with this combo. if they are inside 40 yards, it's a done deal. i'm very happy with this...

i use a .22 for gophers, prairie dogs < 50 yards, squirrels, muskrats, skunks, coons and target practice. any critter bigger than a coon i'm using the .22-250 or a shotgun for close shots

there's a good number of hogs in and around the Clinton wildlife area between Topeka and Lawrence. i've seen sign everywhere and at one time it was ok to hunt them. there was a news segment last fall...

good call on the high number of hens. we can hunt hens in the fall here in KS so i guarantee my son and i will be out in force trying to thin a few out. we can harvest up to 4 birds in the fall.

could also be a barren hen. i've read that a small percentage of hens are infertile and won't ever have a nest and may continue to hang with the toms well into late spring.

any state with a turkey season is great but i'm biased toward KS. incredible number ofbirds and you can hunt them all day and harvest 2 gobblers in the spring and 4 in the fall. very little pressure...
