A 243 rifle is a great rifle for long or short range for deer...if sighted in 2 in.high at 100yds. is easily going to drop a deer at 200 yds.its all in what yds. you prefer too shoot.

I would say go with the 308 because you said you would be hunting woods where their would be alot of brush,and the .308 is a good brush gun.

Oh yes, like timbercruiser said a 22 rifle will kill then if hit in the right place.i like to use a .223 cal. for coyote for long range shots.

The model 870 is a very good choice for your first shotgun ive owned one for 39 yrs. and was a great game getter...but i would reccomend the 20 gage.

Yes pigiron is absolutely right ....take the rings back off and locktite the screws in.i used blue locktite on mine and never had any problems with mine.

I have many apple trees on my 25 acres here in northeast pa. and the deer love them.there has not to many yrs. that i didnt get a nice buck hunting near these apple trees.and yes the meat definately...

I use the barnes expander mz 250 grain bullet over 110 grains of blackhorn 209 with exellent results at the range... 1.5 inch groups at 100yds i found that the cci 209M magnum primers to give me...

I shot my buck 86 yds away ,it was a 9 point and i shot it in the heart with a 270 130 grain core lockt bullet the deer died in its tracks.

I use cci 209 Mprimers to shoot bh209 they are a magnum strenght primer and work well for me...no hang fires since using them.

I hunt with a climber because of the mobility in the rut season in the rifle season i hunt from blinds from the ground unless visability is poor then i use the climber.

I would try some carburetor cleaner if its that tough of stain to get out. carburetor cleaner will take out stains in a bore that regular gun cleaners wont sometimes.

No,deer are not afraid of hay bales after they been there for a couple weeks.ive seen it done a few times before and deer were taken using them for cover.
