A hog skin is 1/2inch thick. A snake bite doesn't effect them.

I use the wool glove liner from a surplus store when I can find them, and wear a mitten over them when walking. Sitting I keep the hand I shoot with inside a pocket with only the liner on.

For these three would suggest a terrier. For waterfowl a springer spaniel or a lab. I have owned springer's and they are great dogs.
Terriers also make good bird and rabbit dogs.
