I prefer cleaning grassies. Got a way so that the scales are not an issue. And the fillet comes off easier with a lot more rib meat. Very good eating.

Nice fish there Darin

RE: What do you guys do with your carp?

I can't eat all that I shoot. I have a lot of requests every yearto do fish fries with carp. But even if you don't eat them, shoot as many as you can. Let's try to knock the population down a little.

RE: What do you guys do with your carp?

cut the tails off to bleed them out. and when you fillet, do NOT leave any red meat on them. There are some links around here somewhere on how to fillet asian carp which work for commons as well....

RE: Flesh quality decline in bighead and silver carp

bowman, the red stuff is real nasty tasting. Eat only firm, white meat. The drop in condition factor results in a jelly-like clear mea that isn't worth eating.

We let a barrel of commons sit overnight with ice down at the Branson BowBash one year, and they were still good eating. On silvers, you can tell when they sat too long - the meat is no longer white...

RE: What is the Best time of Day

For Asian carp, I tend to find them better between 11am and 5pm when it's sunny. After 5 the shadows get too long and the fish spook sooner.
