Maybe it just me but I like a strong fixed blade that I can sharpen. I dont do replaceable blades. Nap Hellrazors and G5 Montecs are my choice. Those suckers could go through a brick wall with my set...

Kid I hunt with only uses his 20ga Remington 870. Has taken many many deer with it. Definitely go with slugs. I dont like using buck shot even in more powerful shot guns, except for coyotes.

Its all about shot placement. On the hunt I was one the only guy to drop a hog with one shot was using a Min-14 in .223 cal. Me.... I had an .308 win. :)
