RE: bear gun

I would get a slug gun. My friend has killed probably more than 50 hogs with his smoothbore 20ga remington 870 deader than a doornail. I have no doubts that a 12ga would rock a bear.

RE: ammo. size

.223 is a little light for hogs. It can be done with proper shot placement but I would recommend using another rifle if you have access to one. Use the biggest bullets available and aim for the brain.

RE: Short barreled bolt gun with iron sights

I like the looks of the savage, but I'm worried the LOP (length of pull) won't fit me right. Theres no gun shops here on Kauai so I can forget shouldering one to see if it fits fine.

RE: Coyote hunting with a .22LR?

Get em withing 50 yards and nail them in the brain and it'll do the trick. A little underpowered for body shots, but it'd probably do the trick anyways.

Put it this way, expect a smear whereever she may sit or lay down and a drop every 10 feet.

If you keep her inside, you will need a kennel or some diapers.
