RE: Mini-!4

Mini 14s aren't known for being accurate, I wouldn't trust good shot placement on a coyote, or even a hit at longer ranges. I had a guy shooting one next to me at the range and he was lucky when he...

RE: Small Game Rifle

A Savage in 204 sounds like just the ticket. I got to use a 204 and a 22-250 P-Dog hunting, and I was more impressed with the 204. Damage seemed the same, except I didn't have to hold off for wind as...

RE: Federal Flitecontrol problems?

The 20 gauge is a Benelli. Just messing around I set a turkey target at the 66 yard smallbore silhouette block, 8 pellets in the head and neck. With the Flitecontrols I wouldn't hit paper. Anyways,...

Federal Flitecontrol problems?

I shot these from a Mossberg 835, at 25 yards the pattern was already huge, deadly, but way too big. At 50 yards there weren't many holes at all on a poster sized piece of paper, only 1 in a 8 inch...

RE: How much insulation does a boot need?

So, good socks, maybe liners and somewhere around 1000 grams insulation? With warm clothing and a hat? Sounds easy enough.

How much insulation does a boot need?

My feet have been growing for the last couple years, so I stuck with cheaper boots that my mom and dad would get me. Problem is, they weren't very warm. I want to get a pair of boots to last a while...

RE: 20 guage too light for deer right?

Only the very low pressure 45-70 loads. The most powerful 20 gauge slugs max out at almost 2400 ft/lbs. A 45-70 (Ruger #1 or similar) maxes out at almost 4000 ft/lbs. A Marlin can handle the 300...

RE: marlin guide gun

A 45/70 has more internal capacity than a 450 Marlin and with something like a Siamese Mauser or Ruger #1 you can pass the 450 Marlin in terms of power.

So you can shoot a 1/2" group at 50 yards and 1 1/2" at 150 offhand? That's world class, you should go into competitions.

RE: How close can a Marlin 1895 be loaded compared to a Ruger #1?

I have no real use for maximum loads in the 45-70, but 200 FPS is a lot, especially when it's a considerable percent of gain. The Ruger #1 isn't something I feel would be as effective in the brush, I...

RE: How close can a Marlin 1895 be loaded compared to a Ruger #1?

If I started handloading it would probably be for deer in the woods, I wouldn't need super high pressures. This is assuming I have money to buy handloader by deer season.
