RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

What production rifles are chambered in 7mm STW? I've seen many high performance custom rifles chambered in it but not many production rifles if any.

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

I handled some 7mm STW shells and they weren't near full with powder, reminded me of a reduced recoil load when I shook it.

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

I was gonna pay for most of the Benelli, he said he would go around $400. Anyways, I didn't get it, so guess that doesn't matter.

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

What are some scopes with lengthy eye-relief that aren't super expensive? I could see everything out of the scope, but then when I got a Limbsaver Slip-On and now I ahve to push waay forward so I can...

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

Not sure that anyone noticed, but I went ahead and bought a Svage 110 in 7mm Rem Mag. It's sweet shooting and recoil isn't an issue at all. I decided this was the best combination for long range...

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

I do not know if it's legal to shoot over a road in Missouri or not. Doesn't sound like it, guess we should've thought before shooting.

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

I'm not saying it was a good shot but I don't think a .243 would've taken it down like that.

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

Well, I used to believe that a big caliber didn't make up for a bad shot...until yesterday. I was at my great uncles with some other hunters during lunch when we saw some deer about 200-250 yards...

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

I got the 110 in 7mm.:D I wanted the 111g, but it wasn't in stock and didn't come in a package deal. They said the scope would be ok for this year at least. I got them to price match the package with...

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

Well I'm goin to basspro, I'm thinking probably a Savage. I like the 111G better than the 110 as far as looks but I've heard a lot about the 110. Is the 111 basically the same gun? I don't want the...

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

What are some good guns in 7mm that aren't too heavy. Almost every deer rifle is chambered in -06, so finding one of those won't matter. I've heard Winchester makes the M70 in 7mm, but I haven't seen...

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

I understand that lots of people aren't willing to spend the time or the money to get good at longer range shots. I have a 550 yard range not too far away and the reason I've decided probably 30-06...

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

Well, I've narrowed it down to 7mm Rem Mag or 30-06. The 7mm does almost everything a 300 Mag can do especially at longer ranges. Heres some ballistics from Scirocco bonded, I picked something at...

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

Also, 7mm-08 must not be too popular around here, Walmart doesn't have it and at BassPro prices are crazy. I'll stick to something where I can get ammo at $11 a box.

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

I've been looking at ballistics tables and long range is really where the 7mm excells. I think it is because of the longer bullets. The -06 drops off faster and loses energy at longer range. I don't...

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

All the Walmarts carry most of the Weatherby caliber ammo, but its not a good selection and theres never very much of it. I don't think I'm gonna go with a Weatherby cartridge. Too much cost and in...

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

Ultra Mags probably wouldn't work for me. I'm definatly of a small build, about 5'3" now. Although I don't find 30-06 recoil that bad at all, I'm sure a 300 Weatherby or Ultra Mag would be a...

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

So...is it narrowed dosn to 270, 7mm, 7mm-08, 30-06 and maybe 25-06? 257 Weatherby looked pretty good but no one has mentioned it.

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

I was looking at factory cartridge ballistics and it looks like the 7mms carry their energy way farther. I know its all about where you put the shot but at 512 yards with a .243 sounds kind of...

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

How much does ammunition for a .257 Weatherby cost? Weatherby Catalog says $41 for 20 but I know WalMart usually has ammo cheaper. 30-06 is sounding like the best choice, or maybe 7mm. Definatly not...

RE: Good long-range deer calibers.

What about the WSMs? The WSSMs havent really caught on I heard they don't cycle reliably but 270 WSM seems to be very popular. I like it's ballistics too.
