i run the hook thru the nose (about 1/4-3/8") and out towards the side with the slot (bottom), and then back up thru theslot to the topside of the bait, then the point of the hook will lay flat on...

looks like a bass assasin or a fluke, rig it weight-less and weedlesswith a good size hook 3/0-5/0 and cast it out and twitch it along, deadly bait for bass, i like to throw them out and let them...
