The 7mm is about too much for deer, I use mine as a combo elk/deer gun which is why i went with the lighter bullet for deer. For close range shots vs. buying shells, 30-30 shells are a heck of alot...

Im sure it would do ok, but it is geared more toward long range. if you get the right load, it can be a very accurate caliber, I handload my own and actually found what seems to be the best deer load...
