I understand that, but a leaf spring has much more strength at the end of travel. That's why a car with coil springs has a softer ride than leaf springs.

The problem with coil springs is they lose all their strength at the end of travel when you need the most power. They depend on hammer momentum instead on spring strength to power the hammer down.

A better lock will have better geometry too. Something you can't do much about, except change the lock. All the top end locks are fast. Everything else being equal.
