RE: Antler Restrictions (What they found in TX)

You are correct that none of the 10K buck lost to non-hunting mortality survived to become 2.5+ buck. But enough buck did survive so that 46% of the buck harvested were 2.5+ buck and 20% of the...

Are you being sarcastic or do you really think the PGC would ever approve something like that?

RE: Antler Restrictions (What they found in TX)

Then I guess the PGC would have no choice but to shorten archery season so the few bucks that would be left could breed the emaining doe undisturbed.;)

RE: Antler Restrictions (What they found in TX)

I have more than enough evidence to support my position. All you have to do is total the number of bucks saved by ARs and subtract the number of 2.5+ buck harvested and see if you don't come up with...

RE: Antler Restrictions (What they found in TX)

How do you think rifle hunters would react to allowing archers to harvest two buck before rifle hunters even set foot in the woods?

RE: Antler Restrictions (What they found in TX)

ARs have resulted in a reduction of the buck harvest by over 10K buck/year since 2002 ,due solely to non-hunting mortality of the bucks saved by ARS. Therefore ARS = buck (HR)herd reduction!!!

RE: Antler Restrictions (What they found in TX)

The failed ways of the past produced a buck harvest of 165 K and a 2.5+ buck harvest of 52,900 in 2002 . The new and improved deer management produced a buck harvest of 109K with only 48,048 2.5+...

RE: Antler Restrictions (What they found in TX)

The TX ARs make bucks with a combined total of less than 4 pts. legal to be harvested. In Miss. their ARs protect all bucks with less than a total of 4 pts.

RE: Antler Restrictions (What they found in TX)

Another problem with the TX ARs is that making bucks with up to 3 pts. legal would result in a big discrepancy in the number of bucks saved in various WMUs. In Allegheny Co. only 24% of 1.5 buck...

RE: Antler Restrictions (What they found in TX)

Apparently you are forgetting that the TX plan allows for the harvest of 2 buck /hunter . Due the number of hunters in PA and the effects of HR, the PGC can not allow 2 buck /year so IMHO the TX plan...

You just referred to 2F and 2G so I suppose you fit that category.

The bottom line is neither you RSB, BTB or anyone else can explain how the PGC determines the number of antlerless tags based...

RE: Antler Restrictions (What they found in TX)

BWJ never has any data. He just makes things up as he goes along and then complains when he is challenged.

If the 2008 buck harvest drops below 100K ,it will indicate the herd has been reduced...

RE: Antler Restrictions (What they found in TX)

The majority support ARs because they weren't told ARs will reduce the rack sizes and that we now have fewer 2.5+ buck than before ARs.

RE: Antler Restrictions (What they found in TX)

Here are no studies that conclude the exact opposite. What they conclude is that there is no reason to cull 1.5 spikes. They also conclude that spikes are inferior for the rate of antler development...

RE: Antler Restrictions (What they found in TX)

Here is a quote from the 2007 AWR.

Based on that info ,it is obvious that the PGC is still using population estimates and DD goals to allocate antlerless allocations.

RE: Antler Restrictions (What they found in TX)

The fact that those 1.5 buck BB were included in the antlerless harvest proves they were not a protected class of deer as 1.5 and 2.5+ spike bucks are with ARs. Also, the fact that it only happened...

RE: Antler Restrictions (What they found in TX)

That simply is not true. The 3" spike rule was designed to protect BB from being harvested as antlered deer, and it was not designed to protect 1.5+ buck. We are now harvesting the best of the buck...

Here is an interesting quote from the link.

So why did the PGC implement ARs when they knew it would likely have an adverse effect on antler quality just like it did in Miss.
