if your going to use it for short ranges and thick brush, i have a xs scout scope mount and a bushnell 2.5X28 leupold scout scope. very bright and clear optics.i think it was just a hair over 200...

i love my 17hmr's. i own 4, but only use three for hunting and they are devastating out to 100, one shot kills out to 140 so far. not a good caliber on windy days unless you've practiced in similar...

i wouldn't call that hunting. when i hunt i shoot one shot at the animal i'm shooting at and then skin and cook. did you guys keep any of the animals? maybe you should get a scope instead of shooting...

don't rule out the t/c contender g2. you can get a 22lr barrel and tehn later on get a 17hmr barrel, or just about anything else for that matter. downside is the price. i bought a t/c encore 5 years...
