RE: Calculating arrow speed

MJL,

The virtual mass or efficiency for a given bow(if he has tested them) can be gotten from a Norb Mullaney bow report out of Bowhunting World magazine. Bow & Arrow hunting magazine had similar...

RE: Does Kinetic Energy = Penetration?

As Dr Ashby's broadhead penetration tests on African game showed, neither KE nor momentum can be used directly to predict penetration by a given arrow, it is only a magnitude indicator of POTENTIAL...

RE: XX78 weight question?

Easton archery guide shows them as not available for that size(2018), although my calculator does allow you to add 4 grains for one(super uni), which is the weight of the next closest 2016 bushing....

RE: XX78 weight question?

moparman,

The 2018s are under the xx75s, I'm showing 485 grn or so for that setup, minus the glue.

RE: Is 350 grain arrow ok no matter how fast the bow?

These limits are based on a 30 in. draw, if you go over 30 in draw your bow will be storing more energy due to the increased draw length, this can be damaging to the bow. The AMO puts out s chart...

RE: Arrow Weight & FOC calculators

Thanks guys, just trying to share some of what I had written and been using on my HP-48 calculcator. It's much easier to use in a browser and it was a good project to learn web programming on.

RE: Arrow Weight & FOC calculators

I think it was more of a total weight thing they were actually interested in.

Arrow Weight & FOC calculators

By popular demand(Ok, 2 guys), I've updated all the calculators to make it so the point weight can be varied from 50 to 200 grains in 5 grain increments.

RE: WOW, alot of KE when I get my new bow.

55#,

The highest SE/PDF ratio I've ever seen Norb Mullaney state is around what JeffB said 1.5, I think that was on a Martin 2 cam highly reflexed, low brace height riser job(got like 250 AMO on...

RE: I Can't get the arrows out of the target!!! :-(

I carry a bar of Ivory in a fanny pack on the 3D range works like a champ. Rub a little on the shaft by the tip right before the shot, doesn't seem to affect flight at all. Works way better than any...

RE: Figuring bow speed

pdq,

What type of cam is on your bow? Typically solo and hatchet type twin cams run around 1.45 or so for an SE/PDF ratio, but this depends also on ATA of the bow in some degree. See if you can...

RE: Hoyt Striker II Shooters - Help???

Got mine pretty quiet, covered the hood with cloth camo tape, and put a sims accesory silencer on the back side, makes less noise from branches too. Did the same to a PSE 2 piece quiver with same...

RE: Arrow Balance and FOC...

FL,

The acceleration we're talking about isn't from the bow, but the wind. The amount of area will largely determine what force a given wind velocity will exert on the arrow, this force locks in...

Black Frog,

I just wanted to make clear, that I wasn't disagreeing that inertial effects be taken into account. I agree 100%. My main point above was that when viewed by itself could lead to wrong...

RE: Arrow Balance and FOC...

It describes the river analogy only to the point of ignoring everything else, assuming no FOC and no forward velocity/momentum. Your river analogy didn't consider the force of current/water over the...

RE: Arrow Balance and FOC...

The issue concerns much more than arrow mass is the reason. A better FOC may actually allow less drift for the lighter arrow due to weathervaning, although starting from zero velocity(the exact...

RE: Arrow Balance and FOC...

This is the effect of FOC where FLHunter and I disagree.

I would submit that the amount of weathervaning is more directly related to the FOC of the arrow(but a large arrow is at a disadvantage). I...

RE: Arrow Balance and FOC...

Easton's recommended combos for the ACE show; insert + point weight gives a 12-15% F.O.C. balance with Spin-Wing Vanes and 11-14% F.O.C. balance with plastic vanes.

Perhaps getting those ballpark...

RE: Arrow Balance and FOC...

55#,

It's hard to say how the 2 arrows would actually compare in all conditions, but I would think that the ACE shafts would definitely have the edge in aerodynamic resistance and therefore...

RE: Arrow Balance and FOC...

I think we're all really talking the same ranges of FOC. Easton's recommendations generally keep you pretty safe.

When I was discussing the drag connection, I think it was in relation to shooting...

RE: Arrow Balance and FOC...

FLHunter and I disagree on some aspects of the FOC topic, I contend and many FITA shooters would contend(I believe McKinney has documented it) that a low FOC hurts performance in wind at those 70 and...

JeffB,

I really like the Topgun release, I wouldn't switch back to Winn or the Tru-Fires, believe I shoot better with the Topgun, the anchor and draw are just right.

Along the lines of the...
