I would guess it's moisture in the leather, maybe use a leather conditioner or sno seal to keep the sling from absorbing moisture and if you end up in the rain take the sling off the gun to dry out...

It's been at least 20 years since I've shot them out of my '06. If I recall they wouldn't group much tighterthan 2 inches but there's a lotta zip!
For grounghogs I'd say stick with 110 or 130...
